I Like Nsima and Fish is a collection of portrait photographs of twenty teenagers from Malawi, who — on the suggestion of Martin Schaer — photographed themselves, their surroundings and daily lives with an analogue camera in 2001. Eight years later Nicola Carpi and Martin Schaer again visited the teenagers — by now adults — to see what had become of them. The result is a book of photographs accompanied by texts in which the people portrayed write about their lives and expectations for the future. I Like Nsima and Fish is twenty African faces providing a glimpse into a world whose differences also reveal parallels to the West.
