Biography
Margrit Sprecher, born in Chur in 1936, is the grande dame of reportage. After training as an interpreter, she worked for Elle for 15 years before moving to Weltwoche in 1983. She has been working as a freelance journalist since 2003 and publishes in NZZ Folio, Die Zeit and Reportagen, among others. She has received numerous awards, including the Joseph Roth Prize, the Egon Erwin Kisch Prize and most recently the Graffenried Lifetime Achievement Award 2016 for her life's work. In 2019, she was jury president for the True Story Award, which is presented annually for the world's best reportage. Margrit Sprecher lives in Zürich.
In 1999, Fabian Basio studied press photography at the MAZ, the Swiss School of Journalism. He has been working as a freelance photographer and filmmaker and partner photographer of Keystone-SDA since 2001. His freelance work focuses on reportages, portraits and documentary films from Switzerland and around the world. He has been studying for a Master of Arts in Film at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts since 2020. He lives with his family in Lucerne.
