Samuel Luterbacher
Biography
Samuel Frédéric Luterbacher is a current visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at Occidental College, Los Angeles. He is a specialist in the art and material culture of the early modern period. His research examines issues of artistic circulation and movement of objects in the Spanish and Portuguese empires in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Other interests include the invention of the concept of “folk art” in the later eighteenth century and its relationship to the European colonial project. His work has been supported by the Robert Lehman Fellowship and the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts in Washington, DC.
