Yuvraj Bhagvan Kadu
Biography
Yuvraj Bhagvan Kadu (b. 1993, Ramkhind village, Maharashtra, India) is an exceptional young proponent of papier-mâché mask making as practiced by the Warli and Kokna indigenous people of Maharashtra. Having learned this art first from his grandfather, the great artist Dharma Rama Kadu, he continued to study and practice under the tutelage of his father Bhagvan Dharma Kadu, and Uncle Subhas Dharma Kadu. He has participated in local exhibitions in Thane and Palghat, as well as made distinctive masks for the Bohada procession in various surrounding villages in Palghar district. Along with his father, uncle and various other volunteers, he was invited to create contemporary masks for the project Acts of Appearance, first initiated by the artist Gauri Gill in 2014. Over the years, this body of work has been exhibited around the world, including at the 58th Venice Biennale, MoMA PS1, New York and Documenta 14, Kassel.
