“Kegeln” is the European way of Bowling, with smaller alleys and basically more comfortable and relaxed. Together with the photographer Rolf Siegenthaler, the editors Fabienne Eggelhöfer and Monica Lutz (first book: Die schönsten Tea Rooms der Schweiz, Edition Patrick Frey, 2004) have published a wonderful, aesthetical journey through Switzerlands Kegelbahnen.
Having enjoyed a general popularity for many years, the Kegelsport is teetering on the edge of extinction in Switzerland. Consequently the attached venues are directly endangered as well. These circumstances are what Fabienne Eggelhöfer and Monica Lutz take into consideration in their new book Gut Holz. They have embarked on a quest through the countless Kegel venues of Switzerland. Frontal views from a central perspective and devoid of humans, the images of these locations are capturing the beholders eye and draw us directly into the scene.
