Skuter (Indonesian for “scooter”) shows a slice of motorized life on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. These pictures of people on motor scooters, many on their way to or from work, were shot through the window of a moving car on a two-day trip from the Aceh highlands to Medan, the capital of North Sumatra. Motor scooters, sometimes used to carry whole families, provide Indonesians with an affordable form of mobility and have become a permanent fixture of daily traffic and everyday life on the archipelago.
The authors took these snapshots in the fall of 2015 while shooting a documentary film about the palm oil industry and rampant deforestation in Sumatra.
