Teresa Chen, a second-generation Chinese-American artist, often works with private photographs taken by her family. In this book, we get to know the obsessive hobby of her remarkable parents. Since their retirement, they have fully dedicated themselves to polka dancing, travelling to countless festivals and contests across the USA. Their enthusiasm for polka dancing is only surpassed by their desire to photographically document their passion.
Teresa Chen re-arranged her parent’s photographs, newspaper clippings, and festival programs. “I show the mix of tradition and imagination, of homesickness and fixed ideas that fires their passion. And not least, the absurdity of the entire endeavour.”
